Voigtlander Portrait Heliar 75mm f/1.8 Lens
They say cinematography is all about lighting. This may be true, but it could also be just as accurate to say that cinematography is all about control. (And yes, lighting is a huge part of that.) The Japanese company Cosina Voigtlander has announced a new, unique Portrait Heliar 75mm f/1.8 Lens that offers the ability to allow photographers, videographers, and any other type of content creators the ability to directly control the lens’s bokeh and adjust its aberration.
Let’s look at this fun, and quite intriguing new lens and explore how this controllable spherical aberration feature can help shooters find interesting new compositions and shots to explore.
The Voigtlander Portrait Heliar 75mm f/1.8 Lens
Designed for Sony E-mount cameras here at launch, the Voigtlander Portrait Heliar 75mm f/1.8 Lens has electronic contacts designed to help ensure that lens usage data is included in the Exif data of captured images.
The lens also features a built-in built-in distance encoder that enables support for 5-axis image stabilization on the body side. Other features include being able to magnify the finder display by operating the focus ring.
Users will find that the lens also provides an imaging circle that covers the 35 mm full-frame format and utilizes an optical design optimized for these Sony E-mount sensors. Plus high resolution will be able to be maintained up to the image periphery and color shifts are well controlled.

Spherical Aberration Control
The killer feature for this Voigtlander Portrait Heliar 75mm f/1.8 Lens is the spherical aberration control ring that is able to provide under or over-corrected spherical aberration which can be used to produce an unprecedented range of out-of-focus effects visible in the viewfinder.
