To support indie documentary filmmakers on their important projects and to aid their crucial stories, Eddie AI—the AI-powered assistant editor that we’ve covered in the past—is launching a new campaign aimed at empowering creatives.

The 1,000 Docs initiative will award 1,000 filmmakers with a free, one-year subscription to Eddie AI Pro, which the company reports will reflect a $1,000 value per recipient and will come with no strings attached.

If you’re interested in learning more about this campaign, and how you could use it—and Eddie AI—to help with your documentary storytelling, here are all of the details below.

Eddie AI 1,000 Docs Campaign

With a total in-king value of the campaign set to exceed $1 million in editing software with the 1,000 Eddie AI Pro subscriptions set to be given away, this is numerically one of the biggest campaign initiatives that we’ve seen for a brand, much more so with AI companies.

The goal is to support documentary stories and up-and-coming filmmakers on their journeys.

“Documentary filmmakers are often spotlighting the most urgent and important issues facing society—but they’re doing it with tight budgets and limited support, fueled by passion,” said Shamir Allibhai, Co-founder and CEO of Eddie AI and former documentarian. “This campaign is our way of saying: we see you, and we want to assist in helping you bring your endeavor to fruition.”

How to Sign-Up

From the launch page for the 1,000 Docs campaign, filmmakers can apply from May 28, 2025, through July 31, 2025. Recipients are selected on a rolling basis to ensure filmmakers can begin using Eddie AI immediately.

The campaign is designed to support emerging and independent creators currently in production or post-production. Selected filmmakers receive one free year of Eddie AI Pro.

Doc filmmakers can use Eddie, akin to “ChatGPT for video editing,” to:

  • Log and organize b-rolls and interviews
  • Identify topics and themes and find soundbites in interviews
  • Create rough cuts from interviews
  • Export the edits to their video editing application, such as Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, and Final Cut Pro

“We built Eddie to take on the tedious parts of editing,” added Allibhai. “So you’re liberated to focus on the creative parts, the narrative, and making sure your message reaches and resonates with your intended audience.”
